I am a young guy with my first FJ40. I am attempting to do some general maintainance, drain and fill the coolant system, but I cannot locate the coolant drain plug on the engine block. Can anyone give me a general location? It seems pretty simple according to my repair manual(s), but it still escapes me.

oh sorry....searched around the forum and found the answer.

Passenger side, right near where the oil pan meets the block.

If you loosen the big inner bolt, you'll have better luck with draining the engine faster, aslo you may have to dig around in there with a coat hanger and screwdriver to loosen up the crud.

Don't be sorry. (Even experienced people can fail to find what they're looking for with the search function.)

Mine is on the driverside on my 1976. It is on the side of the block below the #5 anf #6 cylinder behind the EGR tube.
