Cool oil pressure guage fitting

Just used locktite 545 to be sure. No leaks. The cheesy plastic oil line of my gauge gives me more concern that the fitting.

I went with the copper line just for that reason. Blew out a plastic line on a Volvo I had one time. Never use plastic again.
 
How's the copper hold up vibration wise? Did you put a flex loop like the brake lines have?

I think it will be ok. They have been plumbing gauges with copper line for awhile so I feel better with the copper. I did leave a loop in it because the line was 6ft long and I didn't want to cut it. Here's a pic:

I just played this game. Found that if you run a pipe die on the male NPT thread it will go into the BPS in the block deep enough to hold for a permannent install. This avoids residue from a tap running into an oil passage.

A cool trick that I picked up from the air cooler crowd is to temporarily hook compressed air to any other port in the oil system. Then you've got compressed air blowing the chips back out of the engine. This, combined with loading the tap flutes full of grease, is SOP for "full-flowing" an assembled air cooler engine (full flow oil filtration/external oil cooler mod) .

Amen. Use only copper or -2 AN, the plastic isn't good for anything except trouble.

I plan to use two tapped banjo/union bolts on the OEM oil cooler to install both oil pressure and oil temp senders. The question is which bolt (left or right facing the cooler) would be best suited for each application. Naturally I'd like to place the temp sender where the engine oil enters the cooler. Most OEM schematics show the left bolt as the original tapped location of the oil pressure sender. Can the pressure sender be moved to the right bolt if neccessary without effecting correct readouts.
 
There will be a pressure drop across the oil cooler, so monitoring oil pressure at the exit of the cooler will be the more accurate location if you want to know the pressure in the engine. Pressure is resistance to flow, so where you monitor only tells you what the downstream resistance is.

I've of the idea that I want to know the temp of the oil going into the bearings, not how hot it is coming out of the sump. So somewhere downstream of the cooler would be my choice again.
 
Installed. Added a new OEM sending unit and now have both a VDO pressure gauge and the factory gauge.
