SOLVED: See reply w/ pix from lx200inAR

*************************************************************************************************************************

Recently acquired a 2014 LX570 and my cool box lid keep popping off whenever I hit any slight bump on the road.
It seems like my lid locking lever is fairly loose and rattles (like weak spring retention).

Searched the forum and net extensively and couldn't find any similar topics on 200 series.
Anyone with similar issue or fix?
Does anyone know how to remove the locking lever mechanism?
It's all plastic and I don't want to break anything while trying to disassemble (if possible).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you google Toyota console latch, almost every model of Toyota comes up with tons of hits for replacing what essentially looks like the same latch mechanism. The part is under $20 for almost all the models. I couldn't find a specific LX thread, but they almost all seemed to be fixed similar the LC above.

Oh... that's promising! I will try to google it.

Well...i did a little more looking, and not so positive outcome.

On Partsouq, an ROW variant of the LX570 has a part listed for the latch, but the US variant does not. The part number is 58908-60070. That part doesn't really seem to be available though.

You might have to work on finding a new spring rather than a new part. Assuming you can figure out how to get it off. I expect there are probably screws under those pads.

I appreciate your help... will try again with removing that latch.
It's so fragile and just don't want to break anything... :(

Mine was exactly like this when I bought it. It had also been “repaired” with Velcro tape many times rather than actually fixed. If yours is failed the same way mine is you are in luck.

On mine the hinges were loose, which is why the latch doesn’t catch. Pop off the panel on the back of the console (the one with the 2nd row vents). There are no screws just clips. The whole thing comes off from vent to floor. Pull firmly towards the 2nd row seat. Under that cover there are 4 screws at the top that hold the bracket the hinges for the lid are on. Tighten those screws and your problem should be solved.

Finally solved one of the most annoying little issues in my life recently...

As we get older, we tent to just want to hear our own voice rather than trying to hear other wiseman's wisdoms.
That's exactly what happened to me...
My hinge was super tight with no sign of free movement so I assumed my loose latch was the issue.

Well, finally decided to invest my 3 mins and removed the rear vent assembly according to lx200inAR
To my surprise, 4 screws all loose... stupid me.

I tighten them up and also applied med strength loctite to prevent the screws to backing out again in the future.
Now, my armrest is super tight and wouldn't pop up every time I hit the potholes.

My hat goes off to lx200inAR and this awesome community!

Glad that worked for you. And happy to contribute. This is a great forum and has helped me solve many issues and taught me a ton over my last 12 months of 200 ownership.

Just went out to the garage to snug mine up. Mine engaged and wouldn't pop open, but it definitely felt a little floppy.

A WORD OF WARNING

Whatever the screws are threaded into don't have a lot of guts. I zipped the first one and righty tighty turned into righty loosey pretty easily. The other three I was a lot easier on. They had all backed off about a quarter to half a turn.

thanks for the post.
I have the same issue on my 08' LC200.
When checking the 4 screws, they were all loose. After tightening, it seems that the lock is firm. will check on bumps.
hopefully it solved the issue.

Yep. I did same fix on mine some years back.👍🏼 I’ve taken the center console apart so “deeply” in other cases that I still have nightmares… 😂…but thankfully tge hinge thing isn’t so bad. :)

When I bough mine.. I did this . Everything was good for months.

After going offroading over thanksgiving, now the cool box is popping up again.

I wonder if the things got loose back there

Most likely. It’s pretty common. Might add a little loctite while in there. Although I didn’t and mine has been fine for 2.5yrs.

I've had this issue and was at the dealer this week getting various parts. The latches, 2 on the LC are approximately $30+ and $70+. The parts guy couldn't tell which one I needed. Good thing I checked Mud before buying parts!

@lx200inAR that was it, big thanks for the fix. The money saved is well worth maintaining support for mud.
