I'm new to winches and need advice for my Warn VR-10S. The control pack had to be relocated due to the bumper design, but the winch did not come with a remote mounting kit. I have it located in front of the battery, with closed cell padding beneath the control pack. It moves very little due to "locking" beneath the battery tie down. In the future, I'd like to purchase a block of foam and cut out a custom holder while adding a cut-off switch. All cable leads have been covered with heater hose or protective plastic. Any serious safety issues with the way this is set up?

Also, I cleaned off my synthetic rope after driving though some mud pit laden roads. This was not tightened under load, but I should be able to next weekend. Any issues with the way the rope wound on the drum? If the rope isn't touching the housing it's damn close.

I like what you have done. The only issue with relocating the control pack is to ensure that the wires you have used between the winch and the controls are capable of carrying the large amount of current that the winch will need safely. There are many amperage charts online to guide you in choosing.
Otherwise, you have covered all the safety issues that I can see from an electrical point of view.

I have never used synthetic winch cables so cannot comment on that.
