Hello everybody.
I am new to this forum but not new to Toyota. I am an old school toyota supra enthusiast and I currently drive a 3rd gen Lexus GS 430. I have one small child with another on the way so there is a need for something bigger to have for our family. What type of gas mileage might I expect for some mixed city and hwy driving in Atlanta? I don't traditionally drive in bumper to bumper traffic so I wont be sitting for 30 minutes out of a 40 minute commute.

Please know that I have tried the search function and couldn't find the exact answer without spending tons of time which I don't have at this moment.

I am considering the following vehicles and am trying to narrow it down:

-11/12/13 Cadillac Escalade - 2WD
-11/12/13 GMC Yukon Denali - 2WD
-12/13/14 Chevy Tahoe LTZ- 2WD
-15 Chevy Tahoe/GMC Yukon
-08-14 Toyota Landcruiser
-11/12/13 Infiniti QX56

I love Toyotas and would not mind having a LC but I wanted to reach out to owners to get feedback as it will be better info than I will receive from any dealer or non-enthusiast.

thanks in advance!

Im assuming the real reason you care about the gas mileage is to know how much you will spend on gasoline. Instead of looking at just the gas mileage, look at total cost of ownership. Think about the money you will spend on repairs and the depreciation of the vehicle/its value when you go to sell it or trade-in. The Toyota Land Cruiser is one of, if not the most reliable and durable vehicle on the planet, which means you have to figure your cost of repairs is going to be low. The TLC is also one of the least depreciating vehicles on the planet. It is not hard to buy an LC, drive it for a few years and put 30k-40k miles on it, and it still be worth the same or only slightly less than you paid for it, seriously. The difference in MPG between the vehicles you mentioned isn't going to be that much, maybe ranging from low-mid teens to mid-high teens, and won't outweigh the $$$ spent in the other areas. I suggest a Land Cruiser, just gas it up and go. But be careful, once you get into a Land Cruiser, you may not ever want another SUV.

89cruiserfj62.....thanks, your point is definitely something I have considered. Although a daily driven car isn't an "investment" it does require dollars for repairs and then retained value when finally sold. I do think that over a 5 year period that the LC would be the best investment with the least amount of $$$ spent during ownership.

Would you buy a LC without an extended warranty or a non-certified vehicle? Also, how many miles of warranty coverage does a "certified" LC actually provide from Toyota? it seems the info i am reading ranges from 12k miles to up to 100k miles

Im looking for a used 200 myself and I couldn't care less if its certified and I certainly would NOT buy an extended warranty.

Picture this - it weight close to 6000 lbs and is a full time 4wd rig. I wouldn't even be overly concerned about gas mpg when looking at this truck.
If you are very focused on Gas then I'd probably be looking at a new 4 cyl. 2.0 L Ford Explore or something along those lines....IF

I had a Tahoe before this rig and it used way more gas than this current truck - false advertising on Chevy's part. The Denali and Escalade will be worse on gas than the Tahoe's 5.3 L. So for me that would really just narrow it down to the Toyota and the Infinite.

I will note that my Tahoe felt like it had more interior room than my LC....that may just be me. It was a nice feature to be able to remove the third row seats for all of the young family gear. All nice trucks - good luck and congrats on the growing family.

Welcome!

About 3500 miles on a new '15...

Overall (from the beginning) around 15. Last & most recent tanks 17.1 to 18 .5. Rural areas - mostly highway w/light city type driving.
87 regular works & is recommended by Toyota. BTW mileage is getting better as I put more miles on it.

These trucks are not known for good fuel economy in the first place. My 4th LC ( 3-100's) and now this. Quality products.

I have another car I put my foot into when it's time to really burn gas ha ha!

A Prius it is not, but gas mileage doesn't kill me. I do wish it had greater range though -- I'd like to have the aux tank that they offer in other parts of the world...

I bought mine new without an extended warranty and didn't think twice. The F&I guy was going through his antics to convince us to get it, but as I said to him, at this price point I was buying an LC for a reason. If I wanted to worry about longevity, I'd have gotten an extended warranty with a much nicer interior. If you ask me, it's an oxymoron extended warranty on a Toyota product.

is there a huge reliability difference in the LX570 over the LC? since the suspension is different and there are some tech differences I didn't know if that should be a concern.....keep the comments coming as they are greatly appreciated

I lived in Atlanta for 15 years. I would get a used LX570, used it will run the same $ amount as a LC and it comes with a much longer warranty. Plus all the Lexus dealers in Atlanta will provide you a loaner car when you have it serviced. If you buy a certified preowned from a Lexus dealer with less then 100k miles it comes with a bumper to bumper 3 year and or 100k mile warranty. Living in Atlanta you probably drive over 15k miles a year. So get a used CPO with around 50k miles. But I doubt you will ever need the warranty. These beasts are just getting broken in at 100k miles. Expect in traffic in Atlanta around 14 mpg. On the highway you will get 19 mpg.

All of my LandCruisers have been gas pigs. 15 to 19 mpg. But that's okay. They're solid trucks. I love em. :-)

This. Look into an LX570. Even in 2008 it has many features not available on the LC until 2013 and the price should be very similar to the LC. I would not bother with the extended warranty but if you want it, know that it is much cheaper to buy the warranty for the Toyota / Lexus than for a GM truck.

Best gas mileage was 20 MPG (measured at pump after refill) cruising down an empty highway at 65MPH. Normal day to day is probably around 15 MPG. Stop and go really sucks the gas.

The depreciation on the GM products is horrible which could be seen as a positive since you could buy a same year loaded GM truck for MUCH less than a Toyota / Lexus.

I also had this same question about fuel consumption more related to tires. I was averaging 12-13mpg with my Gelolander ATs but changed to Toyo MT 285/70/17 and dropped to about 11mpg driving conservatively. Just wondering what others average with what setup

I was considering changing tires to Toyo RT since they are lighter and little less aggressive

Curious to hear from others what mpg they get with what setup

What is the weight difference between those 2 tires? Unsprung weight can make a difference.

Tire weight and driving conditions make all the difference. I average 12-13 mpg with KO2 35x12.5x17(67lbs) + additional mods of front/rear steel bumpers and rarely achieve speeds above 35mph.
