What would you say an 80s series axle is equivalent to when it comes to Dana axles? Im wondering about strength primarily..

Most of the opinions I've seen put them between a 44 and a 60.

But closer to the 60! ;)

Rear, yes.
LC rear ring gear= 9.5"
d60 ring gear 9.75".
Same size shafts as older D60 rears with full floating axles (30 spline).

Front, no.
Front diff is smaller than a d44.
Toy ring gear= commonly referred to 8" (actually 7.8???")
d44 ring gear= 8.5"
Both are 30spline at the diff. The 80 has a large birfield which stock for stock is stronger than a typical d44 u-joint (760x and certainly the older spicer part# 297).

Smaller in dia, but is HP, so it runs on the strong side of the teath, unlike most D44s. Also (IIRC) the Yota front has bigger bearings. :hhmm:

I was simply comparing apples to apples, ie. the specific ring gear size/axle size. Plenty of HP 44's to compare to an 80 front axle (new JK rubicon axle and tons of ford straight axle trucks). I was not necessarily comparing a lp d44 to hp toy.

Don't know that I have ever heard of or experienced d44 bearings being a problem.:meh:

Nor have i heard of too many toy R&P's having issues, front or rear. :D

Either/or. :D I've seen steering joints broken on both Danas and Toys much more often than r/p issues. Both are usually on rigs that were made to break things to begin with.

Thanks for the informative post, good info to know.
