My 70 FJ40 has a transplanted 2F with a Weber carb. It runs great when it's warm, but when it gets chilly it gets lean (I think) and "spits" through the carb. Smarter people then me have stated that this is caused by freezing due to venturi forces in the carb and the lack of the factory heat riser. I've tried to make a riser that takes heat from the header where it gathers to 1 pipe and goes to a plate around the air filter. In effect, almost all of the air into the carb comes from around the header,

This helps, but I still get spitting when accellerating or if I get back on the gas after coasting down a hill. It's a serious PITA in the winter. Anybody have a solution?

Thanks,

Gene

Inlet manifold heater

I bought a simple plate that is designed for use with headers, it bolts to the bottom of the inlet manifold and 2 pipes connect to the coolant system to circulate hot coolant through it and heat the manifold.

This leads to the carb operating as if it were warm, much faster.

Works fine, I'll look up the manufacturers name and let you know.

It was surprisingly cheap too, but I did need to file mine a good bit to get it to miss the headers.

Here are 2 pics with my home made riser.

BTW, do you still have those rubber doohickeys for under the hood?

Thanks,

Gene
