Hello all

I have had my clutch replaced by a mechanic 8 months ago with an Excedy heavy duty that I had provided myself.
After picking up the car he gave me the brand new thrust bearing (throw?) Back and said it didn't fit my shaft.

8 months on now my thrust bearing I suspect is giving way..it is making the squeaking clunky pinching noise as the clutch is released in gear.

My question is how do I identify exactly the correct thrust bearing for my gearbox so I can take the box off and replace it all in 1 job.

I am going to do this work myself as I can't afford to be screwed thousands by yet another mechanic for something I should have done myself in the first place.

1995 Hzj80 4.2 aftermarket turbo
I am not 100% what gearbox model but I would appreciate any tips or guidance on how I can identify the correct bearing and then I will drop the box

Thanks, Chris.

I replaced the clutch in my '93 fzj80 using an exedy clutch.
It was supplied with a toyota bearing but it was the wrong size.
Diameter was fine, but it was 5mm too short.
There's a few posts with others having similar expedience with fzj80 and hdj80

Did the mechanic tell you the diameter was wrong?

A search will turn up part numbers.

The bearing should be stamped with numbers. The number on the bearing isn't the toyota part number, but will help you determine which one you have

Thanks mudgudgeon

Yes that was the issue I had with the bearing and thankyou for the info I will need that when my throw bearing actually goes.

Upon closer inspection my issue was actually the rear uni joint giving way and causing the misdiagnosed squeak.

A few squirts of WD40 on the rear diff side uni got rid of the squeak and confirmed I just need to replace that.

Cheers mate 🍻
