Doing a clutch job on my '85 mini. Question is do you guys grease the surface of the TO bearing that makes contact w/ the pressure plate? My '86 FSM says to but I'm worried some of that grease might end up on the clutch surface and ruining my new clutch. Need some expert opinions.:)

dont put any there.

only grease the input shaft that the bearing slides back n forth on. just fill the grooves dont over do it, usually 1 sqeeze of a grease gun onto your finger will give you enough grease. clean the shaft before doing that too

You want to put a light layer of grease on the pressure plate fingers where the throw out bearing contacts it. Don't a lot on there just a thin layer on it. If you dont put any grease on the pressure plate, the bearing face will wear faster and might not engage correctly. What I do is take a tiny little dab of grease and smear it on the face of the bearing. Make sure to wipe off any excess.

Thanks.:) I smeared a light film and my clutch works great. Need to fix an exhaust leak though.
