Ok... So my clutch master has had a slow internal leak for a few months. No big deal, just wipe the drips off the floorboard occasionally. I'd replace it, but it's the early (discontinued?) style.

Friday night, on my way home from AVP, I lost all pedal pressure. I pulled over and refilled the reservoir which was totally empty. Even with vigorous pumping, I still got no pedal pressure. I had to shut the motor off and start it in gear at every stop sign on the way home. I am getting better at shifting the sm420 without a clutch though...

Last night, I decided to bleed the slave, thinking that would solve the problem. I got no air bubbles at all, but now I have a little bit of pedal pressure. The engagement point is now about 2" from the floorboard and it used to be about 2/3 of the way up. More bleeding didn't seem to help anything, but I did notice that the slave is now leaking as well although the crud accumulation prevents me from telling exactly where it's coming from. The slave has been rebuilt before (about 6 years ago) and has previously been switched to the post-74 style.

I think I'm going to just replace both the master and slave as I don't really like having the large-bore master with a small-bore slave. Do the later 3-bolt masters swap in with no issues? Will the hard line mate up correctly (other than having to bend it a little for the side port)? CCOT sells a complete master/line/slave set for upgrading older cruisers that seems like a decent deal - anybody used it? Or should I just get new cylinders and re-use my line? Any better ideas?

Eric
