Clutch Fork Boot

My '79 FJ-40 has been missing the clutch fork boot since I got it. I was considering ordering one..... they're relatively inexpensive. But, doing a search, I read a fairly recent post (One of the three major LC boards.. don't remember which) where someone mentioned to NOT put one on. No explanation why. Couldn't find any other posts on this matter.

Anyone have a theory ?
Dirt, sand, sludge, oil build-up ? Looks to me like it would keep larger FOD out.

Yay or Nay ?

I can't imagine that the Toyota engineers would put it there for no reason. I also can't see how removing it will improve anything except allowing in foreign matter as you state. I have seen a few folks on the trail who don't run the bottom bellhousing cover either. I have never asked them why they choose not to run it but it seems like a bad idea to me also.

Perhaps someone who runs neither will chime in.
