Have you considered a mechanical temp gauge to ensure your stock gauge is correct?

Maybe try Water Wetter by Redline...see if that makes any change at all.

Also I concur with whoever it was that said...do a flush: Make sure your rad is able to do it's job.

I just saw your link to Hedley. Nice! Always wanted to explore that area, and have never taken the time.

I few things to keep in mind...

If you are only seeing this when you first start out with your truck (probably not but just want to get it out of the way) the temp will spike and then drop when the thermostat opens up for the first time and you can see it pretty good with mechanical temp gauge.

When "flex fan" is used on this string are you talking about a solid fan with no clutch? I am thinking that is what is really ment on the string.

a true "flex fan" is used with drag cars and in racing where it is very thin and the blades flex as the speed increases letting the engine have more power doing less work (blades flatten out and do not draw any air), so you can see this is good for drag racing cools at no speed, like running without a fan as high speeds. I would not recommend a true "flex fan" for anyone owning a toyota Land Cruiser that drives on road and off road, it is a waste and could cause more problems than it would be worth it.

I can not hear the clutch fan engage on my BJ74 but it seems to work fine. On my 70 series with 3B (both turbo and non turbo) I have found that they run too hot in general for me (195 - 205F) with stock 85c thermostat so I have replaced all of them with 82c thermostats and they now run 185-195F. (I am in Southern California with lots of hills) I strongly recommend switching to the 82c thermostat, that would be the same one for the 13BT.

If you want to stay with clutch fan and have the money, buy a new clutch from Toyota, if you feel you are skilled enough and don't want to spend the money for new one, rebuild it. If you don't care about the 5hp you might lose without the clutchfan then run solid fan. Keep in mind the stock toyota solid fans (if you can find one for 13BT) will require new water pump - pulley is different for those. Other option is welded one, or lockup your own.

Hope this helps a bit.

Cheers,

Michael

Thanks

I have suspected the thermostat for some time now as it is a winter thermostat the 88C type....

Going to change it will report back...
