91 4Runner. In the dash, after engine start, the batt light stays on and the voltage stays at about 12 volt. New alternator but... no charging still.

I can trigger my charging circuit by direct wire from battery positive to the right side of the charging fuse. After that the engine takes the load from the altrnator and the batt light goes out and the voltage goes up.

Where do you guys recommend I start trouble shooting ? I changed the charge fuse and used contact cleaner in the fuse holder and the main plug by the air box.

Help !

Hi, I have a few questions to hopefully help us help you:
Is this a 4 or 6 cylinder engine?
Where did you get your "new" alternator?
Have you done voltage drop tests on the battery cables?
Does the battery test good?

If it's a reman/parts store alt, I'd say the internal IC Vreg ckt is bad.
Nothing new for those rebuilt ones.

It's a 4 cylinder, the alt is a new Bosh unit from Lordco. Doubt it's the alt, since it was doing the very same thing with my old alt.

Haven't done any other tests. Battery or voltage. I'll check this out when I get back in a couple hours. But, it does this with both my batteries.

Also, this started right after I started the engine, the heater fans come on, then turned off and the alt light and brake light came on.

Is there two fuses in the charging system ?
