John's latest update is titled "Change Is Happening" and is worthwhile reading. br /br /John's article is right on. Change IS happening, and nowhere more than in Southern California. Travel plans, legislation, new regulations and military base expansion are combining to hurricane force. br /br /The good news is the OHV community is getting better at working together. We are better organized and better prepared to meet the challenges. Still, it will definitely take an "all hands on deck" effort. br /br /As John notes in his article, the important challenge of route inventory is reaching a critical time frame for the California Desert District. Senator Feinstein has agreed to consider putting forward a serious Wilderness bill in the District. John and other OHV groups have done a lot of work documenting roads and trails. But the hour is late for compiling route inventories. br /br /John has requested CA4WDC members help complete the route inventory. I would also request that BRC members with good knowledge of the California Desert District respond. br /br /John is asking for specific items. One item is GPS track log data for all routes used for OHV events.nbsp; This data should include as a minimum trail start and end points, headquarters and staging areas, and camping areas. Another is GPS track log data routes OHV users consider important for their recreation opportunity.nbsp; This data should also include as a minimum of trail start and end points and camping areas.br /br /John's project isn't limited to the BLM Desert District, but change is happening there now, so this area should be a priority. br /br /You can contact John via Cal 4 Wheel's websitenbsp; or via phone at 619-390-8747.br /br /You can read John's entire article on our Public Lands page at www.sharetrails.org/public_lands. br /br /Thanks for your time,br /Brian Hawthornebr /Public Lands Policy Directorbr /BlueRibbon Coalitionbr /208-237-1008 ext 102br /br /PS: You can join CA4WDC via their website at http://www.cal4wheel.com/store/home.php?cat=7 or donate at http://www.cal4wheel.com/store/home.php?cat=11
