harbor freight sells disposable tools. you need it, you buy it, you use it, you throw it away. almost everything they sell is junk. if you even think you might use it again buy the best you can afford.

I have a 22 ton Central Hydraulics splitter. I bought it about 3 or 4 years ago with the extended warranty for less than $700. It has the Robin Subaru motor that starts every time.. between myself my cousin and a friend of mine we have probably split around 100+ cords of wood. It's been working great. So I can't complain. If I need a throw away or one time use tool I don't mind getting one form them otherwise most of mine are Craftsman.

Holy back from the dead, thread!

Harbor Freight stuff blows. There are a few exceptions, but their stuff is uniformly crap. If you are broke or young or poor, it's OK to buy their stuff to get started. As long as you then commit to purchasing the real stuff as the HF item breaks.

I would not buy their air tools. Or rather I have, and know they suck. Stick with IR.

Their brass drifts are the best anywhere.

Their impact sockets are actually decent.

Their power tools are total crap. Actually, they are worse than that. I've been through 4-5 of their angle grinders now, where my Milwaukee just keeps running. Their drills suck even worse-almost like they made a drill by looking at a picture in a magazine.

Their hydraulic stuff is down right dangerous.

Overall, they are at the bottom of the quality scale, but the saving grace is that they know it, and price accordingly.

HF shop rags are a great value.

Like Andy said, their drifts are good.

And I like the body tool kit I got from them. It's tough to screw up hammers and dollies.

In my experience as the complexity of the tool goes up the overall suckage of HF tools goes up.

But if you can save some change on stuff like shop rags, hammers and drifts it leaves more for buying quality tools like wrenches.
