Trying to "adjust" one front shackel mount on our hzj73 - the one attached to the frame. I have a pipe on it approx 4ft. Thought I was getting somewhere but it was the pipe bending. I was thinking of going and getting a longer one tomorrow but maybe this isnt the way to do this. SHould I heat it upfirst? I dont have torches...neighbour does though. I have to tweak it approx 8 - 10 degrees....i sure hope this will cure my susp lean - 2" difference between mirror height on drivers/pass.
Any advice here?
Thanks

anyone ever had to do this??

photos? Also, just a consideration, but usually the brute force method can lead to problems. Maybe a shop could help

the frame is not bent as far as I can tell, the shackel mount is visibly off horizontal. a shop wont help right now cause its in pieces. 2 pins on the shackle right? - one to the spring, one to the frame (top pin). where the top pin would fit into the bushings on the frame ("bushing holder") is what I need to straighten. Took pics at too high resolution, have to re-try.

Can / should I do this with a big friggen pipe?

I would get some pics posted first. You could be doing more harm then good. I can't see how the mount would be bent, unless the truck was in a fairly serious wreck.

Do a google search for "resize pictures" and you will find lots of free programs to do it.

yeah...after looking at it yet again, I think it best to take in to a shop at some point. have to be one friggen HUGE bar to bend it back any. This is a Cruiser afterall!!! not some "new car" ;) I too pondered many hrs how it could be bent - tell U thoughthose death-trap 7" shackels that came with it were evil. Just how evil now seems to play out - theyre in the trash can now!

cut it off and re-weld it on straight?

if you want to bend it slightly heat it with a torch till it glow red and it will bend easy. Then cool it down with the flame on the torch. No quick cooling should happen or it can get brittle. The slower the cool down the better.

A shock cool will result in a crack. Also your bending on it can work harden the material to form a crack later. So if you cold bent it you may have to heat it up again and do the slow cool to remove the stesses.

thanks BB. I'm going to see Northern MEtals on Saturday.
