I was out looking at equipment the other day and stumbled across a CAT 3304 and was wondering if anyone has tried a swap or has looked at it? I can't seem to find a spec sheet on the 3304...it is out of a D4D ag crawler, I can find out a bunch on the 3306 but that doesnt really help with dimensions or hp specs (the 3306 is good to 400+ hp in ag machines.)
any ideas would be great

I would try to find out the weight first. A lot of tractor and industrial engines seem like a good fit until you learn what they weigh. There are some really small Detroits that look like a good fit but they weigh 1500 lbs. And horsepower ratings are generally a good indicator of size, as the horsepower goes up so does the size and weight.
An interesting note, on a brand new motor when the horsepower rating goes up the length of the warranty gets shorter. You lose durability so the manufacturers shorten the warranty. (Cummins does this)
Torque, size and weight are more important factors in our Landcruisers than horsepower.
We have a 3304 in an older IT 28 loader . It has a rev limit of about 2800 rpm . Tooooo heavy for the power out-put, also it is a pretty tall motor. I dont know if you noticed the turbo is mounted pretty high also. We also have 3306s in 966C . 3116 in 972G. I work at a Saw mill and Maintain this junk. LOL.
I have been dreaming of swaps like this for over 20 years. Now I have been looking at Perkins , Doosan 5liter (Chinese) but good ,but then these dont have the power of 6B-Ts and Duramax.
these motors do tend to be tall, but I think I can do some changes to that (I need to go take a look again.) I think the 3304 weighs in around 1200-1500 lbs, not totally sure though (seems like they used the engine as ballast for the tractors). This is a cat that has sat out for some time and would probably get parted out, so the motor would end up being just about free. Looking at some older info it looks like they top out at 200hp and 350+ ft/lbs. The spring on the governor looks like it can be changed out similar to a cummins to get more rpm. Back to dreaming...LOL
Went out and took a look at the engine again, with a tape measure this time. From front of water pump to back of block is about 36 inches with a width of 32 inches and the worst part: 38 inches tall with out the turbo and 42 with the turbo. It looks like a good engine just not for the effort it would require to put it into a cruiser.
thanks for the help guys!
