Okay, getting the hang of these forums. Thanks for the advice so far. Here is a new question. I have a 78 rebuild in my 72 fj40. Engine runs great, but when I bought it (1 month ago) I had it tuned up (Someday I'll learn to do this myself) and mechanic said the Weber 38.38 was shot. He adjusted it, said that it needed replacing. The adjustment worked great, but went wheeling last week and had a ton of gas smell. It diesels every once in a great while. I have the stock carb. Need some advice on which way to go. Money is always an issue.

if the weber needs rebuilt, Id probably go the route of getting your aisin rebuilt. do it yourself, find someone local or do a search on carb and Jim C.

webers good, but the aisin is just as good if not better.

Jim C?

I've seen his name, but who and where is he?

I'll Chime in, Jim C (Chenowith) is in Lancaster OH. About 45 mins east of Columbus. Has a shop TLC performance. VERY NICE guy to work with, I have been to his place a few times to get parts and advice. (parts are reasonable, and advice is free.)

Dont quote me but I think his rebuilds are around $250.00 or so. I have NEVER heard a bad thing about him or his work, and he can "dial in" the carb to your applications. Asian carbs only.

gillti,

me and you have just about the same setup goin...and i'm about to get rid of my holley and go with a jim c. aisin (as soon as i get the money).

you'll get a couple of guys that say a progressive weber is better for the cruiser and the 2F, but the vast majority of cruiserheads swear by aisin and especially jim c. carbs.
