This sounds more timing related to me. I’d double check your timing. Mine has been set to factory and that’s where I leave it. Desmogged, ran my OE carb that way and now my Sniper. I didn’t even recheck my timing before I finished the install and drove to CO from IL. :hillbilly:

I dont know lots about timing, but I did set it to around 11, which seems to be what a lot people set for a desmogged engine. I have not recurved my dizzy either.
 
Set it back to the factory spec 7° and see if that makes any difference.
My engine would definitely ping if I set it to 11° (at sea level)

Oh, forgot about that variable. Mine is still 100% stock.

I agree with @OSS set to factory and recheck.
 
When in doubt, assume everything the PO did is wrong and reset everything manually. Sorry its vague advice, but it could save you some time
 
Well, i did 2 items. I decreased the timing a bit, and I changed some vacuum hosing on a vcv.
The truck ran better, started easier, but still has an issue. But it was a good difference between now and what it was.
There are probably too many unknowns to get the truck to run great.
