I am considering a propane conversion on my '85 22r. The engine has been ridden hard and put away wet with 140K miles. My carb is failing and I need a new one soon. I am not planning on the propane very soon, so does anyone knew a good carb upgrade for my situation. I am looking for any info on a carb that is good for my gas engine that will work optimally with a propane kit.

I believe the propane kit replaces the carb all together.

the factory carb is what you want to stay with because when you switch over to the propane all you need is the adapter that bolts in between the factory carb base plate with three screws and the propane mixer and if you need one I have one laying around for the conversion

For the price that you are going to spend on a good running carb you can go ahead and switch over to propane

X2.
A replacement carb's about the price of the kit. A carb rebuild will likely run you about 400 bucks, easy.

Stock carbs work well and are relatively easy/cheap to rebuild. The most common failure is the secondary accelerator pump diaphragm. When perforated, it leaks fuel into the vacuum line, causing a rich running condition.

Yeah but I have saw very few that run top notch after a rebuild plus it still will not perform as well as propane during wheeling

I agree that EFI or propane is better than any carb. In my experience, if stuck running a carb, stock Aisin is best. The last one that was done here, was done by the 16yr old owner of a '85 rig with +200K miles. Used the FSM as a guide, parts store kit, he did 100% of the work. Bolted it on, a quick tune of idle and is still running great. The key is doing/setting up it correctly by the book. They are pretty simple units, I have seen very few problems with them.

Did you add propane? I am replacing the stock carb with a 32/36 weber and want to be sure the new carb will fit with the BRC propane system I have on it already. Has anyone done this or have this setup?
