can you un 10W30 in a 2.7

my 2.7L tacoma calls fo 5W30. Will it hurt it to run 10W30? can someone explain the difference with oil weights.

5w30 is thinner (has a different viscosity) than 10w30.
I run 5w30 in my Tacoma but I run 10w30 in our LX450 since it has more miles and some minor leaks even thought the manual says 5w30.
I can't see it hurting, especially in hotter climates.

it's got 140k on it. i'm in western nc. summers get kinda warm 80's-90's. should i stick with it. i had to have my tires balanced and got the oil changed too. i usually do it myself with 5w but thats what the guy at the tire and lube put in.

10w30 will be just a bit thicker. It will not hurt anything. If you live in a colder climate it will take a little bit longer to warm up. 5w30 is just a bit thinner.

From the research I have done on 5w30 vs. 10w30, I have found that after the engine comes up to temp. the weight is the same of the two oils. 10w is a little thicker at startup.....you will be fine with either.

Yes when warm they should be the same. The 5W compared to the 10W means it will flow easier at a cooler temperature providing more protection at startup.
If your objective is to reduce noise or leakage due to higher clearances then perhaps a 10W-40 is an option...the 40 being thicker when your vehicle is up to temperature.
