Can you run a Lithium starter battery with AGM house?

My current AGM (Odyssey) battery is getting a bit long in the tooth (voltage is dropping from 12.7 to 12.0 if not driven for a few days). It is about 8 years old. Was looking at the antigravity group 27 starter battery as my truck tends to sit for a month at a go (we're overseas a lot). My Odyssey AGM house battery is in better shape and probably has a few more years left in it.

The question is: Can I, use a lithium starter with a house AGM given the fact that I have a redarc isolator (dual battery solenoid)? Do I need to move both to Lithium?

Loosing 80+ lbs off the front end (if I replace both) would be nice but it would also come at significant cost. Budgeting is easier if I can do the starter battery now and wait to replace the house later.

IMO, your proposed solution won't work well for you. Firstly, Lithium batteries generally don't like hot environments. Some claim they can be swapped in place and operate under the hood but your location (Ethiopia) would be really pushing the limits.

Secondly, your isolator is a "battery combiner" type (charging in Parallel). The optimal charging profile of a lithium battery is different than an AGM battery. So, one or both batteries will never receive an optimal charge. People do run dissimilar batteries with decent results but these lithium batteries are $1000/ea.

hoser, thanks for the reply. The parallel charging of my Redarc is probably the most important bit. Thanks for that. That said, my 100 series is in Seattle so heat isn't that much of a problem. In fact, and most people aren't aware of this but much of Ethiopia is at altitude. Im in Addis and most of the city is at 8000 ft. As a result temps only range from a high in the 70s to a low in the 50s pretty much every day of the year. We have a 2019 Pajero Sport here.

Probably will just save the cash and replace the Odyssey with the same again.

Cheers,
Chris
