I’m not sure why my setup was like this when I bought my 40 but for some reason, I’ve always had a direct ground line from the negative battery terminal directly (in addition to the normal frame ground straps) to one of the mounting/adjuster bolts for the alternator. Is this redundant or are you seeing this on your 40? For reference my 40 has no issues with electronics or charging…in fact it was not even connected for the last few months.

Picture here of my direct strap to the rear adjustment bolt. Seems not necessary. Can someone confirm for me?

(Also this pic was taken last year when I was replacing various engine gaskets…coolant line was pushed away for the install).

I'd say redundant but who cares. In May or so I put 2/0 cables with cast on ends on my rig. Red pos+ went to the starter and the rig power connected at the clamp bolt. Black neg - went to bolt on the side cover of block. I ran my old black #2 cable from the bolt to the frame ground under the brake line T. From the T a black #10 to a screw on the cab.

If and when the OEM alternator goes I'll be doing a one wire GM 100+ Amp with a big wire to the battery + and separate ground wire.
I'll be monitoring the voltage.
