Went camping with my girlfriend over the Valentine's day weekend. We had an awesome time. Set up in a great camp site that i know of in the Upper Creek area here in NC, took the cruiser out a few miles of nice dirt roads and had it all to ourselves. We were able to do a little fishing, a little hiking, and a lot of relaxing, it's nice to have a significant other that enjoys the same things i do and doesn't have to be taken out to he nicest restaurant to have fun on V day. She does need some work on her fishing skills though. She is just learning the ins and outs of fly fishing and is really into it. Her cast is always getting better, she is starting to pick up on where the fish might be, she needs some practice wading appearantly though. About ten minutes into our fishing we were crossing the creek and i told her to be careful of a deep section. She didnt realize that with crystal clear water it can be hard to determine depth and thought she could just walk right through. Went in, it was deeper than she was, i was able to grab the back of her waders and pull her out but in doing so the force caused me to go in and my waders were full. Dam that was some cold water, it reminded me of Bear Grylls doing some dumass thing trying to show you how to survive in ice water or something. Got the clothes hung up to dry and got warmed up and were able to laugh about such a great story afterwards. Next morning the clothes were stiff as a bord from the remaining water freezing in them.

Here are some pictures.

That's awesome. A refreshing way to spend Valentines Day.

I can relate to having a GF that is adventurous and interested in the outdoors. She has taken to camping, trout fishing and bird hunting with me. I'm excited to spend some more time with her in the 80 with her this summer.

Thanks for all the kind words guys, she's definately a keeper.

If you're ever in the NC mountains and are looking for a great place to camp there are a ton of spots in that area that are great for either car camping or backpacking. I'd be happy to give you guys directions to some good spots..

Hey Boone, any tips you have would be appreciated! We went out to the Linville Gorge area a few months ago and picked the wrong campsite, it'd be nice to know of some good spots and any good drives.

Those are awesome pictures and you're a very fortunate fellow!

Well joe just send me a pm when you are planning your next outing. I do a lot of stuff outside so know a lot of great spots. As far as good drives there are a ton of dirt roads out there that are really fun. Try looking into the globe area south of linville. like i said just send a pm or something next time you're trying to go out i'll be glad to help ya out.

What campsite did you choose in the gorge?

Awww man, you're making me soooo jealous with those pictures. My wife's family lives in Boone and I absolutely love that area up there. You guys live in a beautiful part of the country man. I would move there in a heartbeat if I could. My wife's uncle is the GM for Ruby Tuesday's up there. We get up there 1-2 times of year and it's my favorite trip of the year every time. I may have to take the Landcruiser and the 4wt's up there this year and take the kids camping. I may have to hit you up for some good campsites! If you ever find yourself in the FL panhandle and I have time, I'll put you on some redfish with the whip stick. I'm a fly fishing nut also!

Great pictures. Thank you for sharing and please post more!

We have driven through Boone NC a few times on our way to the beach for family vacations. Driving through has made me want to stay overnight. What a beautiful area and a lovely mountain community.

Thanks for the pictures and looks like you guys have a lot in common.

Thanks guys.

raymon, if when you're up here next time let me know i'll give you a few local spots that always produce some good fish. The best ones up here aren't the big ones they stock in the streams but the little brookies that you have to really work for, you'll be supprised how rewarding a 5 inch fish can be. I'd be happy to point you to some good campsites as well.

Ky, you should definately take the time to stop in. there are some really great places to eat, great places to visit, you name it boone has it. It would be a great trip for a night, weekend, or vacation.

You're a lucky guy in all respects. Enjoy what you have. Linville is beautiful. I used to put around some areas up there in a Jeep XJ years ago when I had family @ Linville Ridge.

Yep I really am lucky, you'll never hear me say anything different. She's beautiful and fun and has a level head so i dont have to deal with any crazyness, living here doesn't hurt anything, good job, bout to be done with college, i'd say i'm in a good spot.

Profro. Is it the campsite that has weird dirt mounds at the end of the road to stop traffic? A trail follows the creek upstream from those weird dirt mounds.
