I'm mounting my new Columbus rooftop tent and I would like to attach flood lights on each side under the rack to illuminate the campsight on either side. There're nothing like stumbling into the campsight at night and having to get the latern going. Any suggestions on the lights themselves?

TIA

The generic term, where ever you are camped. Unless you plan to always camp solo in the back of beyond or never turn the floods on when you are with a group.

I avoid bright lights at night when camping. The only flash light I use at night is a mini mag AAA. After your eyes adapt you see a lot more without artifical light than with it.

Just my preference.

Now when I need to change a tire or locate the asshat on the side of the mountain who thinks I will enjoy his hip hop music at three AM I break out the big guns. I want one of those buzillion candle power hand held spot lights for those situations.

Never answered the question.
Asshats with really bright lights and loud stereos who like to stay up all night drinking and getting loud, as near as I can tell.

There are several tractor back up lights, and floods designed for use on ag equipment that will work well to illuminate an area while you set up camp. You don't need a lot of wattage, since your only going to light up a few square yards, and you can angle the lights downward.

Once you get the camp set up, douse the lights and use the lantern. They have a nice yellow light and that comforting hiss. Plus, when you turn them off, there is always just enough light left to get to your bed and....ZZZZZZZZZZ!

Best

Mike

PS: send a photo of your set up.

Thanks for the information on the lights. I didn't say I wanted to land a 747, just have some immediate light to set up camp; no brighter or imposing than a lantern.

My post did come off kinda pissy didn't it?

Sorry about that , as you may have been able to tell I was flashing on some bad experiences with less than considerate neighbors.

I'll just go and sit in the corner for a while now. :frown:

I picked up a couple of really, really cheap 12v flood lights on closeout from Kragen for a couple of bucks each. They are mag mount so I can place on top of our trailer when we pull in to camp late. Ran a dual 12V cig lighter adapter from the trailer battery to the rear of the trailer to plug them in. Not overly obtrusive as to bother those around us any more than 30 boys setting up camp. hehehe

You're forgiven; BTW I hate hip hop, I'm 43 years old and simply don't understand it !

When I need light for setting up or to work on my rig, I use a fluorescent work light I got at Home Depot for $20. It connects to my inverter and it draws 11 watts. It has a long cable that doubles as an extension cord. It has a hook on it, so I can hang it from the roof rack or if I'm working in the back of my rig, I just put it over the glass on the open hatch. That way I get a lot of light on the rear of my cruiser.
I've only used it for short periods of time and had no issues with my battery.

Regards

Alvaro
