I've been getting a heap of info off here for ages, but never seem to need to post much as everything I need to know is already answered. So I thought I'd stick some pics up here of a camel muster I went on a few weeks ago in central Australia. These would have to be the hardest working 40's in history I reckon.
This is 'shorty', it's a bullcatcher and has been on this station from new (30 years). It has gone through 6 motors in its lifetime, but the rest of the drivetrain is original. I could not believe the torture these trucks are put through, and they are going out every day getting hammered chasing camels. Gave me a new found appreciation for how tough the 40's are.
They also had a 45 ute that had been on the property since new, as well as a new 79ute in the back there
One of the local stockmen, probably the only ones tougher than the 40's
'Shorty' - The station (property) we were on was where the advertisements for the new 200 were done for the North American market. The toyota people saw shorty and offered the owner of the station $30,000 for it, they wanted to stick shorty in their museum. He refused, said he wouldn't give it to them for $200,000. Legend.
The view from the back of Shorty. Yes, we went over that log
It's pretty much all off track at top speed
good advice
getting the yards ready for the arrival of the camels, that rock smashed the diff but she kept on going. Every day for 30 years!
Here come the camels, the chopper herded them in from about 30kms away. They are completely wild, never seen people before. The flying is insane.
once the camels get close enough the cars close in to move them into the yards
The camels are herded into the yards with the 40's driving in a line very slowly
My favourite one - big bull camel. Very handsome, but the stink...
job done, now to get some more
