So... After a week of having my truck in the shop (:bang:) And finally having it all back together, ive got no spark... We traced every single wire, everythings fine. We have spark to the distributer, but nothing after... Everything is hooked up and for giggles we crank her'... She fires... We are utterly confused, then she dies. Wont start. We pull the cap and notice the rotor bugs not turning. WTF?
Pull valve cover, everythings hooked up.
Crank her, the timing gear and full pump lobe thing arent turning.
The pin between them is gone!
So, we proceed to pull the cambolt.
Are you ready for this? I feel like such a dumbass. I want to shove my foot so far up my ass!
Have an impact (were lazy) but, guess what? Its set to tighten! Zip... And strip... ****!
Luckily its just the front part of the bolt. The threads in the cam are good. We hope. We got another bolt to thread in there, but is not stepped and is to short.

Now... Where do i find a cam shaft bolt?
is it worth going to a different cam? Recomendations?

Ahh... The local "nuts and bolts" specialist even knew what it was for! I handed the bolt, he said "22R toyota?" I was astounded... Guy knew his stuff! Only cost me three fidy!

That took a serious gun to strip that bolt. I'd use what I learned and keep that thing away from lugs, and delicate bolts.

I keep two guns. One cheapo for light stuff, and one 600 pounder for mean stuff. The 1st job I ever had was tires, and I've seen WAY too many lugs put on by people like you.

glad you got it fixed...

Wait a minute! The cam stopped exactly at TDC? How did you not bend any valves?

For the best bolt, get one off another head. I'd either hit a salvage yard up, or another mudder.

See above. If it's not grade 8 I'd leave it right where it was. Numerous bolts have a twin but it's the grade you have to look out for.
