It seems that it took a while for the HJ47 to actually make land and hit the dealerships in Central America back in the 70's and 80's.
Looks like your cruiser was built in August 1983. It kinda depends on the country; my troopy is an October 1984 titled as a 1984, but was probably sold as new in 1985. Some countries sell and title the vehicle based on the actual year it was built and some countries title the vehicle based on the year in which it was sold as new.

05/1984 as per ToyoDIY.com. Was registered as a 1983 in Latin America where it came from, however records had been lost on it for years and when brought out of the warehouse it sat in for a couple decades it took nearly six months to try and find the records. Or so I was told. Needless to say, I trust ToyoDIY.com and by comparing to other HJ47 vin #'s I would say 05/1984 is spot on. Beno even broke it down a bit more than that saying a guy could figure out nearly what day or week it was made.
