Hello everyone. Continuing to baseline my 2000 LC.

I've read through a couple of threads on fixing the AC drip by either ordering a new rubberized/foam gasket (called "heater core packing" part #88578-47040 -- got the part # from one of the other threads) or doing the DIY method of using some RTV or some other gasket maker to seal the box. I think I'd rather order the OEM part -- ignorant here, but wouldn't using silicone/RTV/gasket maker make it more difficult to get off in the future?

My confusion is this:
  • ToyotaPartsDeal says that part number does fits my 2000 LC
  • Norwalk Toyota, McGregor, and my local dealer's websites both say it does not fit (and the only "you might try this part" options given are the actual heater core for $500+; searching under 2000 LC comes up with nothing for heater core packing)
  • PartSouq lists the part on the heater core list for my VIN, but says not available
Were there ever models that didn't have this gasket/foam/"packing"? I'm 99% confident I pulled some out of the housing cover when I took it off and it wasn't just additional debris. It looked like 20 year old rubberized gasket.

Likewise, the cabin air filters are opposite -- ToyotaPartsDeal says it can't confirm Part# 88568-60010 for my vehicle while the dealer websites can. (And do I need to order 2? When I opened up the slot there were none installed.) Read some confusing threads that talked about how it seemed inconsistent that some LCs had filters, others didn't, people doing mods to add the slot, etc.

Also, can anyone confirm the part # for the glovebox bulb? I can't find it on the PartSouq diagram. A search came up with part # 90981-11014 but it doesn't specifically say glovebox. (Instead, the description says "Console body and trim. Ashtray. Auto trans. Floor shift.").

I'm fairly confident the dealer website would be right on the air filter, but could it be wrong on the heater core packing? I just want to make sure I can believe ToyotaPartsDeal before I call my local dealer to order the same part but don't want to be out $16 for nothing. If not... what's the correct part #?

Thanks in advance.

Also, just making sure this is where that packing/gasket goes. Down in the groove of the cover and not on the actual box.

Update: called parts counter. Struggled to find it, but he did eventually see the packing part# 88578-47040 as a valid fit. $15.29 at my dealer.

Re: cabin air filters, his system shows none for LCs for the entire 100 series range, so he couldn't even answer if one filter or two. But, based off of tlcfaq I went ahead and ordered two. $20.70 each (yes, I know marked up from what you can get online, but I want to get this done ASAP and shipping negates the price difference.)

This is the correct part # for glovebox bulb: 90981-11018, which is odd because the dealer parts website says it is for 2008+ LCs, not 1998-2007. But he said in his system it was showing as correct fit. $3.33.

So should have everything in early next week and I can verify whether that packing gasket is the right part number of not. He said it was U shaped on the diagram, so not sure if it even goes around the whole of the cover or not. Guess we'll find out.

Take the factory screws that hold the cover on over to Lowe's or Home Depot and get some new stainless screws, slightly oversize. The old screws never really seem to grab well in the plastic anymore after they have been taken out. The new screws will pull it nice and tight, and the new OEM 'packing' foam worm seal will solve the dripping issue. Also make sure there are no leaves and crud in the bottom of the air box, as this can block the drain water. You might want to get some AC coil cleaner to use while you have it all open, can get a can of that at the big-box store, too.

No good deed goes unpunished... alright, I'll try to do that this weekend. That's... annoying!

This part (Toyota P/N 88578-47040) has been discontinued.
Does anyone know of an alternative aftermarket part?
Try ordering from Lexus. You could call Bell Lexus before placing your order. I like using them for small parts. Currently on sale and free shipping.
