Any of you guys running BDS, did you use caster shims? I'm wanting to get a BDS with 2" shackel and was wondering if I need to use those 4 degree or 6 degree shims? I drive alot of freeway miles and want my steering to be pretty good when I'm cruizing on Houston freeways.

thanks james

No caster shims on my truck but I'm wondering if it might be a good idea. I'm getting excessive wear on the outside of the front tires. Is that a sign of the caster being off?
I'm running the 2 1/2" lift with greasable pins and shackles of the stock length.

That's prolly because you have too much toe-in. Check the FSM, but I think it's supposed to be 1/8" or so. Caster is the vertical alignment, when viewed from the side. An alignment shop can check caster for you, and if it's off, can tell you what degree of shim is needed to put it back right.

I too have an 85 Fj60.
Just picked up the Dakars. Sucks cause I wanted the AU OME's. As far as the AU I was only able to locate the right front and rear springs with different vendors across the USA.

Instead I sucked it up and went with the heavy duty Dakar's with the 4" shackle reversal from MAF. Installing this Saturday. Pics to follow. Check back late saturday evening/Sunday afternoon. I anticipate White Shark will be posting them up.

Toe in has been checked several times and is fine. The shops all say that caster can't be changed "Duh", that's what shims are for. I'll ask again and see.

anti-inversion shackles, do these have to be welded in or involve any welding? New to this shackle stuff. which is better, regular shackles or anti-inversion?

Thanks

Anti-inversion are better, greasable is better.

No welding on the ones I have seen. They all bolt together during assembly. Easy stuff.

Camber can't be adjusted. This is vertical orientation of the tires, from the front. If the alignment shop says caster can't be changed, then go to a different shop.

If toe and caster are correct, then the wear is due to something else (duh). I'd be checking the knuckle bearings and wheel bearings in particular.
