Buy a rolled wreck? or pass?

An acquaintance rolled his 86 shorty last weekend, was running fine, rebuilt tranny, etc. I'm having recurring head gasket trouble with my 85 with 22r, used a head shim because the head had been milled so much, lasted about 6 months, now I have a very efficient water pump. How much of engine/trans/stuff can I use out of the later donor? It's 22re, 5 speed, mine's 22r 5 speed, slips out of 5th occasionally. I'd primarily be interested in the engine/trans, but there's lots of other usable bits, it's 250.00 to me.

Most parts are interchangeable between 85-86.
Should be topshift trans/case as well. Block is the same.

If you've got a place to put it, by all means pick it up. Just a couple months ago, guys on this forum were telling me I'd eventually regret not taking a free pickup of the same vintage as mine, and I already do.
