Doug the engine warm up before shifting into OD happens on mine everyday. I think it is so the engine doesn't lug when it gets cold. Kind of an idiot proof deal I would say. Also to notice it much you have got to live where it actually gets cold. :-))
Cheers,
Sean

MTNRAT -

I'm sure you and I have different opinions on what cold is. This morning, in Texas, it was a FRIGID 45 deg F.

I'm with NorCal.
That ain't normal.
My 96 has no problem getting in OD when it get in the 20's here.
I would have a detail conversation on that one and make sure it gets put down in writing as being reported prior to the your expiration.

As a cold weather dweller, I agree with MTNRAT. The OD won't engage on most vehicles until the trans reaches a specific (yet unknown to me) temperature.

Oh yeah, just bought an 80 yesterday so that's why I'm visiting here. :)

I'll post pics and a description of my new ride in a day or two when I remember to bring the camera with me to work.

Just heard back from my service guy at Lexus. They are replacing the power steering pump, the starter, driver door power window motor, alarm piezo, and the rear washer pump.

He also told me the issue of not shifting into overdrive while cold is built into the transmission to allow the fluid to rise to proper temp.

I had them inspect the PHH. He said everything looked good but quoted me a price of $453.66 to replace ALL heater hoses. I told him I would hold off on that until I needed it.

BTW - I put over 800 miles on the loaner over Thanksgiving. What a lifesaver!
