Great video. I LMAO when you used the sock to clean the windshield. I also thought it was hilarious that there were two women and a child in the back of the rhino while he was pushing on the red dodge that was stuck while it was being pulled by an ATV. That was priceless. The passengers looked like they were just chillin'. Oh yea, one more thing, unless it was something else making that sound, I could have sworn there was a serious "clunk" when the camaro was shifted. Anyway, there was a lot of chaos out there and I would have loved to witness it.

Got a question. I've always considered getting and installing a Safari Snorkel. It's not that I intend to do much deep water crossing, but I do think they look awesome and I am under the impression that there is some value in having a higher intake point because the air might be a bit cooler/cleaner. Do I have to cut my quarter panel? Do I have to drill into my quarter panel? Probably stupid questions, but hell I really don't know and that information will help me decide where this project gets placed in order or priority. Thanks.

You have to cut a hole in the fender apron and drill a hole or two for the winshield mount. We are looking at doing a few home made snorkels like the link Cole posted above.

Honestly I am not sure. All the trucks that did well out there where running the old Co-op bias ply mud tires. My Mud Brutes just balled up in the clay and no matter how hard I spun them they would not clear out for me to get traction, and I was spinning them about 4500 rpm in low third. (redline is at 5500)

I know Lockers would definalty help but I dont know how much. The Toyota I mentioned earlier jerking everyone out was bone stock except for the bed, an the co-op's he was running he claimed. Thats not to say he hadn't put a Lincoln locker in the truck, i didn't ask him that, I just asked him if he was running lockers and he said no.

While I was stuck I got out and the bottom was very hard in the mud, one you sunk through the 6 or seven inches of mud the clay was firm so I am thinking my wide tires where just trying to push to much crap and I ended up digging a hole in the clay, rather than the narrow Co-ops just slicing through the mud and riding along on the bottom.

So all and all I think diferant tires would have been the biggest help in this hole.

I am not 100% if the clunk you are talking about is the one I am remembering, but an old CJ5 busted a u joint while I was filming once and that might have been it that you heard. broke away from the transfer case so there was no driveshaft flailing about to make more noise.

You have to cut your apron... we're gonna do this project on mine, Landry's and probably Theriot's rig.

I'm gonna buy a spare apron hopefully w/in the week. Emailing a guy from mud.

We posted in the forum for this. You're very much right, it's sweet. I personally don't like the idea of how it's mounted to the apron and the fact that it doesn't allow for the safari mirrors. I'd like to see a tab coming from the windshield hinge and maybe even the top attachment area. Last, I'd think plastic would be more "durable" and give a bit more when struck by trees etc... than metal that may bend/cave in.

all that bull being said, I'd like to try one of these. I'm trying to convince Theriot to get his private pipe bender to make us some w/ the mirror curve in it!

One of my buddies had a locked FJ60 in the 90s with old Gumbo Mudders (interco originals)...the rig would sink, bite and push a wall of mud as deep as the hood sometimes...we'd ride the levee in the pouring rain , etc...no traction=no go. I like boggers for that crap myself....

I've already ordered the ARB snorkel for the FZJ80....its on the way...ordered it over the weekend. I had trouble finding the New Style...the new style doesn't interfere with my antenna...I am cutting! Now, I would consider the stainless Sshnorkel on the 40, but not the 80...I just like the ARB...its airodynamic,etc. Besides, its so easy on the 80...its already pretty waterproof, and the dizzy is way high up and sideways, and the Air cleaner is super water tight, cyclonic, and right where the snorkel comes it....plain simple... on my 40, I'll have to do some mods.

Thats what I would really like to get is a spare set of boggers just for trails. Cut the little treads out like Albert had on his samurai and just hope nothing breaks.

I am having a friend who does welding and owns his own fabrication business to build sliders for mine...basically a clone of slee's. Same guy says he'll put my panels on the 40 when I'm ready. I am SERIOUSLY just not into all the huge bumpers with giant swing out tire carriers,etc...just not my style...I like just opening my doors with ease on both my rigs...I won't be going with really huge tires anyway. I'm going with 305's. Should have nice travel with the J-springs. My main goal this week is to put the OME J springs on and get the castor correct, install the foam cell shocks and steering dampener, and I'm going to want longer brake hoses at each wheel before I hit any trails! Here's a glimpse of the future:

Thats where the boggers are at home, you won't welcome them on the street. They are also very heavy and hard on the birfs but if your not turning crazy RPMs or one of those fat lugs catching a tree root you'll be ok.

The story about Wimberly Four Wheel Drive:

I was last week at our house in Canyon Lake, TX (between San Antonio and Austin) and Thursday we drove on I-35 to Austin to meet friends for dinner. I was sitting in the rear minding my own business while the women were quacking away about stuff I could care less about.

Looking out the window, a big fireworks wharehouse caught my eye and as we passed it I saw an old FJ40 fenced in on a small yard. I blinked twice and then saw many more FJ40s in various stages of disrepair! WOW, I thought, I hit the jackpot of junk yard hunters!

I made a mental note of it's location and the next day drove out to find it, which I did easily. As I pulled over I see the Wimberley 4WD sign and realize that it's not just a yard full of old FJs, but an actual specialty LC shop. I grabbed my camera and started shooting when some kid came out and gave me "the look". I quickly introduced myself and told him I was from N.O., which made him smile and invite me in. There I met Daniel Edone, owner, whci was very friendly and did not hesitate to give me a tour of his yard, then took me into the shop, WOW!! Check out the pics.

Daniel works exclusively on LC modifications and restorations. They are now building their own bush guard bumpers and roof rack attachment system for the FJs. Well, see for yourself and give Daniel a call if you need a modification made to your cruiser. BTW, I bought the tailgate in the picture for my LC.
