Thomas Jefferson knew because he himself studied the previous failed attempts at government. He understood actual history, the nature of God, his laws and the nature of man. That happens to be way more than what most understand today. Jefferson really knew his stuff. A voice from the past to lead us in the future:
John F. Kennedy held a dinner in the white House for a group of the brightest minds in the nation at that time. He made this statement: "This is perhaps the assembly of the most intelligence ever to gather at one time in the White House with the exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone."
"When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall become as corrupt as Europe ." -- Thomas Jefferson
"The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not." -- Thomas Jefferson
"It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. A principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world." -- Thomas Jefferson
"I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them." -- Thomas Jefferson
"My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government." -- Thomas Jefferson
"No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." – ThomasJefferson
"The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government." Thomas Jefferson
"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." -- Thomas Jefferson
"To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical." -- Thomas Jefferson
Thomas Jefferson said in 1802:
"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property - until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered."

I wish we could get this out to everyone!!!

Damn, he was "The Man" he did more in the first 30 years of his life then most folks do in a lifetime. No suprise why we will always reference his body of work.

That said I'm ready to get the hell out of here and get on the road. Beer, crawfish some good company and this weather has me itching to go :bounce:  :bounce2:

Nope, its an 1100 classic. Close though. I've wanted one since before I was in the army and its the only bike I felt comfortable on without spending 10K+.

I had the 650 custom with the button seats, I put 20000 miles on it in six years. Shaft drive you have? My next one is a HD with chain not belt.

Congrats on the new ride Ryan, enjoy but keep your head on a swivel for the knuckleheads out there that don't pay attention to bikers.

Shaft drive. Very comfortable bike for me. My last bike was also shaft. Thought I would go belt this time, but hey, sometimes you just ride something and you like it. I've been looking at these at dealers, but ended up finding a private seller with a good deal. It had 2600 miles and I paid 5k. It's pretty much still new. I've installed Jardine slip-ons on it and that's about it. I've only ridden 200 miles so far due to crappy whether and no time...

I also tried the VStar 950t, a Vulcan Drifter 1500, and a Sportster. The 950 was too buzzy and the rear suspension was harsh. The drifter was difficult to handle and I didn't like the way the fenders caught the wind, I was unsure whether or not I liked the style, comfortable bike though. I didn't like the position or the style of the HD, it didn't have the floorboards and I didn't like the high and narrow tank. The 1100 has the wide tank, windshield, long and low, floorboards, back rest, wide seat, etc from factory. All I need now is a set of bags. The aftermarket is also pretty large for something that is not HD.

FYI, for those traveling on trips with any trailers Dad passed this on and I signed up myself yesterday I was already a Good Sam member for the discounts at campgrounds on our Branson trip last summer but you can't beat the deal on their road side assitance it covers all your vehicles and trailers. Wish I had it on that Branson trip after having Allstate for many years and never using it I got flats on two trailers the last two trips. Just passing it on Join Emergency Roadside Assistance today ? Good Sam Standard and Platinum Road Service

I'm a member. They cover all of your vehicles and not just your RV. Make sure you join well before a trip though. If you join right before a trip, it takes some time to get into the system and they can't help you right away. They will however, reimburse you when your membership is approved (I went through this when I blew a brake line the day after I joined). Just FYI. Great people though. They've even sent me free DVD's on RV maintenance.
