Brighten the Sangres :: June 26, 2010

In response to this post, I have just been on the phone with Jackie of the Wet Mountain Tribune in Westcliffe, and she said that the Brighten the Sangres event which has alway been scheduled for the Saturday before Fathers day, June 19, has been rescheduled for June 26th this year due to the large amount of snow this year. This will make for some decisions as I believe the club picnic has been scheduled for the 26th also. For anyone desiring to confirm this information, please do. Here are the phone numbers:

Checked the club picnic date, and looks like its on June 27th. So, looks like there's no conflict with this. So, those of you wanting to get out in the Sangre de Cristo's can make plans. Campers go down on Friday evening, and Saturday folks go down EARLY that morning. More later.

Well:censor:I'm out. I had to ask for this weekend off two months ago and it took some arm twisting then. Can't go on the 26th. Anybody want to go on a trail ride this weekend? Havn't been out since March and I'm starting to get pretty :mad:!

Brighten the Sangres :: June 26, 2010

Just had a call back from Jeff, the ranger at Westcliffe. He is glad to hear that a few of us will be coming down on the 26th to help with the cleanup. This will be a very impromptu event, and since the fair grounds have another event going on, Friday nite camping will be available at the Silvercliffe Park. Turn left on the 2nd street as you come into Silvercliffe, and go to the end to the park. They will have the water on in the bathrooms. The Westcliffe horsemen will be there also. The meet time will be about 8:30am at the Westcliffe NF office, which is South of the Conoco station in Silvercliffe. I believe the Conoco is the station we usually stop at to air up and get cruiser fuel and people fuel for the return trip home. And yes, I plan on going this year - as long as I can get the FJ40 home from Grand Junction tomorrow. No worries for the FJ40, its the '40 driver that might get a little tired on the 300 mile trip through the central rockies, via, Kebler pass and Cottonwood pass. :) Then pavement from Buena Vista into CS. :eek: If anyone plans to go down Friday nite, post here.

Where do you wanna go?

If Andy is coming out, I'm in. :) Anyone wants to go on an impromptu run, let me know. I'm down for Saturday morning. Anyone know if the gates are open on Rampart yet? I would love to hit Dakan road or something. Maybe 300v and 300U? Maybe beat around in rainbow falls or something.

Sounds great to me! I'm planning to take the wife and the dog up to camp somewhere on friday night. Any suggestions for an out-of-the way area? We could meet up somewhere on Saturday morning and tool around somewhere:steer:. Just let me know where and when and I'll be there!

I'll plan on being at the Western gas station at 8:30 Saturday morning. My cell phone went through the washer so the number on my sig doesn't work right now. You can reach me at 209-8982 if you want to meet later than 8:30 or meet somewhere else. Sounds like it's just going to be me and Ryan? I'm not a morning person so any earlier is probably out. :D

Back to the thread topic...

Need to have an idea on how many are planning to go to Brighten the Sangres, June 26th. In the past some have gone down on the Friday before and camped, and the remainder go down Saturday morning. The Friday leave times are dependent on those going, but its meet at the gas station on highway 115 (S. Nevada) and Star Ranch Rd. about 6:30pm, leaving at about 7pm. Sat morning is meet at about 6am, and leave at about 6:30am. This allows about 2 hours, and allows time in case some have to make a potty stop at Penrose. We need to be at the Westcliffe NF office by about 8:30 to get trail assignments. Please give me an idea if you plan to go, so I can notify Jeff of the count at the San Isabel NF office in Westcliffe. In the past we have cleaned Hermit road, which does go well above timber line. Jeff said they had a lot of snow, but in my travels the past Wednesday over Kebler and Cottonwood passes, I found no snow on or near the roads. By the 26th if the hot weather continues, we may be just picking up trash and maybe clearing a few fallen trees. We can only hope.

Well, I decided to change the differential seals and the transfer case rear output seal, I have just about everything done except I am waiting for Toyota to get the transfer case nut, should be in friday...so if it gets in I'm in, if not, then I'm unfortunately out. Wish me luck. :confused:

Trip Report: Brighten the Sangres - June 26, 2010

About time to put the wraps on this and put out a few words and a few pictures. The report in a 2 part pdf, because of limits imposed by 'mud on file sizes. Plan on the 2011 BTS event right now.
