Rather than buying expensive testing equipment I think I will replace it every three years - DOT 4 now I guess.

Seems I am always playing with caliper rebuilds every 3-4 years so I always flush the whole system as a matter of practice. Like dino motor oil, DOT 3 is cheap and does the job when changed regularly.

I always replace my brake fluid at the same time I replace the headlight fluid.

The headlight fluid is connected to your windshield fluid -

Don't laugh Lx450 headlights have been known to leak and they are insanely more expensive than the Landcruiser ones... Then again so too is the muffler bearing...
