Bought a new cabover, got a couple of questions about stuff for it.

I kind of put that in with the west coast thing, and yes we were.:flipoff2:

Thanks, we have gotten a ton of use out of it. I just wished it would fit on the roads that we take our LC's in the middle of Nevada. Oh yeahh.:hillbilly:

You just need to try harder. Very few of the central Nevada roads will stop a 4x4 CC with a camper. But it is nerve racking sometimes :D

You need to go on some of the "roads" we have been on. Not going to get a hard side 10' camper on them, not unless you want to tear the top off. I agree that a lot of the valley roads that run north/south aren't too bad, but once you head east/west up into and over the mountains, it's a whole different story.:grinpimp:

I most likely have been on those roads.
I spent a lot of time in Northern Nevada exploring.

I went to UNR and the Horgans showed me the way :D

Wimp ;)

I said most, not all :D
Thats Spressomon, in a rare moment when he didn't have his AT behind his rig.
It is a place called Jet Canyon, almost due east of Round Mountain. We found a lot of roads on that trip that were like that or worse. Thats the trip where I grenaded the front diff in the 100.

Did that individual road take you to a place you would have wanted to set up camp in a cabover?

I like using the cabover as a base camp. And then exploring from there. There are TONS of trails out there that a full size truck cannot tackle. but rarely are those trails more than 10 to 15 miles from a perfectly suitable road for a camper..

:steer:

God I can't wait to get back into central nevada to explore more :D

You could probably set up a base camp down in the valley. Basically the same way you would use it at Johnson Valley or Moab. The problem is that as a group, we hate going back, "Always Forward."

We tend to cover a lot of miles in one day, if we can, we start around 0800 and find camp around 1600, we just never know where we will end up. We are bad about driving along and someone notices a road on a map or GPS and we take it, that is about all of the planning we do, it's more fun that way.

Believe me, I love camping in my cabover, but it just isn't practical for the trips we do in the wilds of Nevada.

And yes, if you haven't been in a while, you need to get out there, we have been finding a lot of really incredible country.

I agree fully, if you are doing the Wander around and see where the roads will take ya, the big rigs can be a serious pita. Turning around sometimes SUCKS!!

Be a lto easier to get the little woman and kids to go along with me on these events now that I am not driving the 40 and sleeping in a tent :D

I also have a estimate into the CalMark Company to see how much they charge for a cover..

Did you get your quote yet? I have gone through several of the Tyvek style covers, they last about a year. The wind and sun destroy them. I have been looking at the CalMark's and was curious how much they were quoting you.

Also, if you don't already have them, put some Rancho 9000's or Bilstein shocks on your truck. The stock shocks aren't strong enough to stop the sway. I have the 9000's and crank them up when the camper is on. I have moved the camper around on my property without turning up the shocks and I almost got sea sick.:hillbilly:

$580 or so for the top. I am just gonna put it in a little room of it's own.

I have rancho RSX's (or some crap) on there right now. I stopped into the 4WP today but gave up after waiting for 10 mins.

Air bags at 745 psi help a hell of a lot ;)

I think I am gonna upgrade the sway bar too..

Ouch.

I actually inflate my bags to where they keep the overloads from hitting by about 1-2 inches (50-60lbs), that way the overloads get to do their job on the bigger bumps and it also can help with the sway.

Probably my biggest complaint with Ford is the location of the stock shocks on the rear, they are too close to the center of the vehicle to be as effective as they could be.

Wow! that bed looks like it was made for Herman Munster :D

My wife and kids are starting to outgrow the tenting thing also, how did you like your Alaskan?

I really liked it. Uber lite compared to this monster.

But, no real facilities. this thing is a heck of a lot nicer to stay in. And has a ton more room. setup and takedown is easier as well.

This is much better ;)
