This isn't cruiser related but I was wondering if any of you have or know of a boat motor for sale. I need something ca 10-20 hp.

btw, I witnessed the first (well second) use of GT's new winch today. Impressive. I also got to pull some stoned highschool students out of the mud. (they were in a pickup....ok.......)

There, I said something cruiser related....boat motor anyone?

Hi Barry,

Wish I had known- just got rid of a 15 and a 9.9 h.p....

I have a 4HP that you are welcome to borrow from my shed (if it hasn't been packed up yet); If I were you I'd check pawn shops for used outboards. Also, the Tradewinds magazine (that they sell at gas stations) always has a number of outboards in there.

Good luck, Ben

thanks for the tips Ben. Just got the boat yesterday (14' alluminum v-hull fishing boat). I'll keep my eyes open. I think I'll probably need more than 4hp to go faster than I already can in my canoe:cool:

Damnit Ben, I'da bought the 9.9.

For what? I guess you have come up with a way to mount it on that "superfly" chrome front bumper to help with the water crossings. :flipoff2:

Lookin at Ben's avatar, he has plenty to lone out.:)

Barry,

We inherited Amanda's grandfather's 14 ft V-hull aluminum fishin' boat a few years ago. It came with a Johnson 9.5 hp. If you load it down, you may want a few more horses. Anywhere on the Pearl for a boat that size? Will it fit on your roof?

9.5 is borderline. With one person should be fine. 2 boys, and dog and gear (rhymes with......) A little sluggish perhaps. I'm thinking 15 - 25. The boat came with a trailer. What the heck I'll post a photo. The light post thingys have already been "removed" to accomodate my driveway. The motor in the picture did not come with it.

I think it would do alright on the Pearl. Maybe not during high summer when it gets real shallow. When I find a motor I want to go exploring. My cruiser seemed to enjoy pulling it.

Barry,

Check with Kenny or Myron at C&S Marine. I asked them and I think they may have a couple of small motors available. Myron once owned a shop that did a lot of Cruiser work here in town. If you go see them, they are located on Lakeland Dr. right by the Mazda place. Go on back to the back where the shop is and tell em' I sent you. Should be worth at least a 20% mark up on the regular price! Ha!

thanks man. i'll check it out.

If Master Bodean's guy doesn't come through for ya, check craigslist.com. I have seen a few on there as well. Word to the wise, never, never go downstream with a Gamefisher outboard. ;)

Your rig is purrfect for the Pearl, though. When I get back up there to a meeting I will tell ya the story of jetskiiing down the Pearl and over lowhead dam one summer. D'oh!

The better question is what is google? :D

believe it or not, I had actually checked google 1st thing.
The first one on the list looked ok, but shipping is killer.

I think I can do better somewhere nearby. Any advice on hp, having seen the boat?

A 9.9 will plane her out with two physically fit adults, a guitar, guitar case, suitcase of beer and a whippet-sized dog. A 15 h.p. would do it better, and the next step up is a 20 or 25 h.p. I would stick with something around 15 since you'll want to be able to cartop the boat and carry the motor to the water sometimes. You can forget singlehanding a 25 without a hernia.
