norcal,
You can't say that and not tell us what it was about.....

And Thanks to Biff, so far as my reseach goes cheapasdirt can are legit and they will ship to CA...I don't know how since the cans are not CA approved.
In NorCal, there are a few Ace Hardware stores that have them -- but it's hit or miss. Not all carry them. I lucked out when another board member found some and was gracious enough to buy a couple for me. Each can came with a spout -- cost was under $40 per.

Expedition Exchange (www.expeditionexchange.com) in So. Cal has them, but legally they can't sell them to anyone in Cali. Sad because they have some NICE Nato cans. Now...if you know someone outside of Cali who might be kind enough to help you out...

If you live out of state like Wes does, you have not problems.

Yeah.. I think that's it. Thanks Doug.

Biff, those alum ones start to dribble at the base where is lets air in and or at the base of the flex line. Not to mention they pour slower than maple syrup. Mine don't get used much now that I'm and oil burner. I rarely use a can and if I do I only take one.

Hey Doug,

So why does Cheaper than dirt ship them to Cali? just curious
I'm not sure. Could be that they don't know about the legalities or don't care.

I recall seeing one site that sold Nato cans (don't recall which one) that specified that if they shipped to CA, the buyer had to "promise" to not carry fuel in them  riiiiiiight....sure...I "promise" ;)

I remember coming across a internet shop in Gardena (40 min away from me). They had the gas cans in stock but could not sell to anyone in CA! I called and asked if I walked in... nope.

I've seen the metal ones at Harbor Frieght, but they have the screw on top not the flip top like the NATO ones.

SO these are the good ones? I like the clamp down style gas cans.

PKP80,
How close are you to Santa Monica?
The clamp-down ones are the Nato ones -- the "good ones". The screw top ones are the only ones that have been approved by CARB (California Air Resources Board - the smog guys) at this point.

Ditto on NorCal's reply....

I am very close to Santa Monica. Live just east of UCLA.
