After rears of wheeling around BC and never breaking anything (yeah yeah, obviously not wheeling hard enough) I finally busted something on the HDJ81.

What burns is where I busted it: ATEB's parking lot. I was pulling in to get my valve clearances checked, drove in a little too far and went over the wheel-stop on the curb. Trying to reverse back over, it was hesitating about going. It being 11 pm and tired and lazy, instead of dropping into 4lo and engaging the CDL, I just stomped on the go pedal. Rear wheel spun out, then bang! Front right birf went. &%$^%$&^*$%$*%&$^%$*%!!!

At least it was a convenient place to bust something, but still!! &%$^&$^%$^^^%!!!!!

My 80 was the other one in there getting serviced. I had a look at your wheel flange and good gawd there were no splines left at all! All rusty and stripped smooth...guess it was bound to happen sooner or later, what better place to happen?;)

In retrospect, a blessing in disguise. It would likely have gone on me in the middle of nowhere otherwise :)

Not so clean after three years of BC mud and water :) Its done a few deep water crossings, so probably filled up with water through the old seals a few times.

For a while now the notorious 80's clunk was getting worse and worse. I was starting to think I'd need a mcnamara gear. Now, with two new front driveshafts, no more clunk. So I guess the clunk had nothing to do with the xfer case input shaft, which is what usually clunks on 80s.

All rusty? But these are supposed to be clean JDMs ?
