Fellow Wisconsinites,

I am a new Toyota owner and returning to wheeling after about a ten year break. I'm taking my son up to Black River Falls for a little wheeling and camping. It'sbeen awhile and I was wondering if any one had any pointers for some good trails. I do have some maps and a general familiarity with the area.

I am also interested in joining the club - I'm just sort of a busy guy - in addition to work & family, I play in two rock bands, so wheeling right now is just when I can squeeze it in.

Thanks for any help!

Dave

Black River Falls is closed to off highway vehicles other than regular road ways. The trails that we used to run years ago, the pits, etc are all off limits. There are ATV routes through the area. Unless you have access to private land check before you go please.

Welcome back to wheeling.

Thanks Hank,

Dave

as far as joining, all ya have to do is post....which you did...so yer in! lol

What's the catch? Do I have to wash your trucks? With a list like that, I'd need to hire a crew . . .

no catch....

or is there....

hhmmmmmmmm

Perhaps one thing I can offer if the need ever arises - I practice law in Brookfield and am knowledgeable (or at least good at finding the answers) about esoteric things like the right to use roads on public land in Wisconsin, land use, recreational immunity, DNR speak, waivers, releases and the like. If I can be of assistance, let me know.

oooh.....now THAT's good to know....very helpful to have a contact for that info!

now the question, what rig did you USED to wheel 10 years ago? (suspicion we've met/wheeled before....)

I used to own a '95 Land Rover Discovery - ARB Bull Bar and Warn M8 - I do not believe we've met because most of the wheeling I did was solo and in combination with hunting or fishing trips. I was a member of United and the Wisconsin Four Wheel Drive Assoc. I also belonged to the Chicago Land Rover Club. After I sold the Disco, I sort of evolved through some vehicles that were not right for wheeling and I am really happy to finally have something again that is right for the job and hoping to find the time to do some more.

I used to write a column for Wisconsin Outdoor News called "The Law of Nature" and I think I even wrote an article about legalities surrounding wheeling. I was also involved for awhile as a writer for a television show called "The Outdoor Experience." But those things also sort of ended about the time I stopped wheeling. I got into playing in rock bands and that sort of sucked up all my free time!

we did meet once....remember the truck....IIRC, you attended a Wi4WDA meeting....

You have a good memory! That's entirely possible. Hopefully I'll be able to get out on something that you are involved with in the not too distant future . . .

So, is "Wisconsin Landcruiser Legends" a club? Is Four Lakes a subset of Wisconsin Landcruiser Legends?

Dave:hhmm:

OK - "independent" meaning it is not automatically affiliated with any larger organization like TLCA? If I join 4 Lakes, does the membership include a membership in any other orgs?

Thanks,

Dave

4Lakes is 'independent' in that they are non-denominational...Jeeps, Toyotas, Chev's, etc...

you'd have to check with 4Lakes, but I suspect their membership would include Wisconsin, United, and maybe Midwest too....

TLCA membership is independent of club membership for most Toyota based clubs.

LCL has been inactive for a number of years...honestly, once 'MUD took off, I simply ran out of time to organize things and no one else stepped up to take control....

magically tho, we still spend time online tho ;)

Dave, You can reach the 4Lakes 4 Wheels Pres. Melissa Borde at (melissa@carmelaussies.com). I just went on my first ride with them two weeks ago and had a great time. We were up by Sauk City, lots of deep sand, a little mud and other fun obstacles. The club also has private land available in Richland Center area and I believe in the Black River Falls area. The members list contains wheelers from the southern half of WI.
