A friend of mine sent me this. Thought it might interest some of you.
You are cordially invited to attend The YBL Fall Luncheon On the 9th of October
Eleven thirty AM
The Hilton Hotel
Our distinguished speaker will be
Captain Jeff Struecker
Jeff Struecker never wanted to be famous, yet his heroic actions in Mogadishu, Somalia made him very well known. Staff Sgt. Jeff Struecker left the safety of the American compound to rescue two downed pilots. He drove through the city while dodging gun fire and grenades. Jeff says that although the gunmen fired their machine guns directly at Jeff, his men, and his vehicles, all of the men were unharmed.
Jeff drove his humvee out on a road that skirted the city to the southwest. Through an occasional hail of AK-47 fire, Jeff and his men were able to see the Black Hawk crash site which was down in a little valley, and there was no way to get closer to it. They kept driving on their round-about course until they encountered a firefight at the K-4 traffic circle, one of the major traffic intersections in southern Mogadishu. What was supposed to be a rescue mission turned into a firefight that left 18 American soldiers dead.
In addition to Somalia, Jeff has also served in Panama and Desert Storm. Jeff's experiences in Mogadishu, Somalia were featured in the book and film Black Hawk Down. He received a Bronze Star for Valor for his role in Mogadishu. Jeff gives credit to his Savior and Friend Jesus Christ. Jeff and his wife Dawn are raising five children: Aaron, Jacob, Joseph, Abigail, and Lydia.
Join us for what promises to be an insightful look at courage under fire as Jeff Struecker shares about – "staying grounded through the most intense moments of life."
