I am having some issues with bad Black exhaust.
I experience a loss of power going up hills as well as an engine temp rise. as soon as I get to the top no black temp loweres and power is back.

You need to tell us make, year, model and engine type . If its diesel it should be in the diesel forum;)

It probably needs the injectors rebuilt or the fuel pump turned or both.
Black smoke is unburnt diesel and often goes hand in hand with overheating.

If the injectors are worn out ,they dribble rather than spray the fuel;)

the make and model

sorry about that I was quite tired at the time.
I have a 1990 lj78 with the 2.4lt diesel, the 2L TE engine.
I am finding it hard to find out anything on this engine.
cheers

If it's diesel you are likely overfueling. Simple adjustment. If you have an EGT gauge you can adjust your fuel load to a safe EGT level but no higher. There are lots of other possibilities but this is a good start.
