hello everyone
89 bj74v 13bt a440f
have shudder when in gear up to about 1500 revs
problem seems to be worse at normal operating temperature
when realy bad revs will drop back to about 600 and it feels lick it is going to stall.........have replacesd all fluids / fuel filter
any ideas would be apreciated
thanks

Does this happen immediately after startup as well? Or just after some time.
If just after some time I would check the fuel(-line).
Are you sure the lines are not clogged? Is the ventline to the tank open? (easily checked by taking the fuel cap of at moment of 'stall')

Regards,

Regards,

Exactly, sounds like an air-lock in the fuel line. Test run with fuel cap off.

bj74 trouble

tryed to tighten filter did not move...........opened bleeder nipple and did have a little bit of air there but made no difference
used winch today to fell some trees for my dad and realised when transfer is in neutral it runs smooth even when reving up in gear....
only shudders when i h2 or l4......could this mean transfer is at fault
any more ideas
thanks

If your x-fer or gearbox should be a fault then there has to be quite some damage and you'll find metal parts and flakes in the oil. Just drain a bit and y'll know.
Keep in mind that the plug has a magnet in it so you will find some debris there as well.

hey there ron
when i changed the gear oil there was some small flakes stuck to the magnet .........more like dust .
same was on the rear diff bung to.
i will give it another change tomorrow....would a lsd fluid be better
than standard gear oil?
thanks

Gooch,

some small flakes and less than 1 mm is pretty normal. Nothing to worry about.
As far as the oil, stick to the standard I would say.
