Complete novice here, please forgive me in advance. I have a 1987 BJ74, Auto, 13b-t, 267km. I'm starting to get some "play" in the front end. My mechanic said the tie rods should be replaced. My question for the forum, what tie rod(s) should I be buying? I'd like to keep it as stock as possible. I don't offroad at all. I simply use it to commute to work about 3 days weeks. Thank you for any guidance!

your truck looks RHD in that pic, out here we can get all 4 TRE's including the tie rod and relay rod and clamps etc from Toyota for around $60 USD for the whole lot including freight ex japan, don't know what sort of pricing and availability you'd get from the states?

At $60 a pop for those rods, either toyota parts desk made a stuff up, or your memory is shot,

I've still got all the invoices mate they were all over the counter retail prices no trade or discount prices, first set I brought in 2008 were $40 NZD each, brought another set in 2011 for $45 NZD each and brought another set this year for $45 NZD each, every set I brought was ex japan and included freight so Toyota either has a :censor: up in their price list of they have a big shed full of them in Tokyo they want to get rid of :)

Curious why you cannot simply replace the Tie Rod Ends instead of the whole assembly?
FYI, I just checked on the part numbers posted here earlier and neither shows up with Toyota in California.

That is dirt cheap then, wow, I should just ask amayama to price one up or even toyota, It sounded way to cheap for a OE , maybe they have a full shed in japan, " Stocktake sale"

Toyota discontinued the ends for that era vehicle and you have to get the end and rod together as a kit.

Same for the FJ4x/FJ6x and 7x up through the 7x converted to the 80 series front.
