The drivers side power window on my BJ74 is giving me issues. It gets stuck and refuses to go up. I press the switch and I can hear the relay click but nothing. A little tug on the glass and it's then able to go up. However there are grinding sounds that don't sound to healthy. Looking at the service manual, they mention a window regulator. Could this be what is giving me issues?

You need to pull off the door trim and watch whats happening. Its an easy job getting the trim clips off if you use the tool you can buy.Make sure you get the lever in the right spot otherwise you can rip the the clips off:mad::rolleyes:

However, I would say the teeth in the regulator have probably rounded off

Check and clean the electrical contacts while your in there
When its all finished, lubricate the runners for the window,I use graphite powder;)
Takes the strain off the mechanical components

Thanks Rosco

I've had the trim off (more times than I wanna count) and tried to look at the mechanism as its running. Not to easy to see whats going on since its behind the sheet metal. If the teeth are rounded off on the regulator, it pretty much requires a whole new one correct?

Yes ,I dont think you can fix them, you cant on the non electric type Again ,lubricating the runners helps avoid this ;)

Try a telescopic mirror to get behind there and see whats happening

I've picked up a new window regulator and will be installing it this week end. Looking at the service manual the removal and install looks pretty straight forward Anyone have any tips or tricks for removing the glass and installing the new regulator?

When doing the manual type ,I leave the glass in the frame but hold it up out of the way by sticking a screwdriver underneath it through some holes in the door.

Have you downloaded the online body/chassis manual?

Yeah I have the body and chassis manual but sometimes people have discovered tricks that mack the job easier than the way it is outlined in the manual. Figured it didn't hurt to ask
