Hi team , can someone tell me are you supposed to be able to switch of the overdrive in the auto in a bj74. mine has an aftermarket shifter so i'm not sure if this was a feature on the original shifter. cheers Jim

Hi Jim

I have the stock shifter set up in my 74, I have to put in 3rd (rather than Drive) to lock out the overdrive.. and i do this pretty much anything lower than 75-80km/h (with stock 4.11's and 31x10.5x15's)

You should be able to do the same, or maybe not if its a quick shifter or something
yeah it sucks a little in drive, as it doesn't hold 3rd long enough for my liking
Its my first auto LC, so i guess it takes a little getting used to

Cheers Iain

Thanks Ian, most helpfull. now i'm wondering if i can set it up like the 60s that has a lock for the overdrive on the shifter. i think they have the same tranmission. maybe one of our more technical members could tell me if it's possible. cheers jim

...

Yep, I have to switch into 3rd on good sized hills.

One thing I wonder though...and I wonder if its just my rig or what...

When it hits the top OD gear, I get some serious acceleration. Its unlike anything I've ever driven before. My BMW 850 V12 doesn't pull that well in OD. The only things I can think of is the low end torque of a diesel and the turbo I have spinning on the 1HZ.

I love my toy.....

droool...

boy would i love a 1HZ-T in my bj74, i had to read that twice after you said ACCELERATION up a hill???

maybe one day after i find a good deal on a H55F and split t-case, and swap the 13bt into my bj40.. yeah baby
.. ive also pondered if a hilux 3.0L turbo diesel would work in with the LC g-box.. that would be nice too

but by that time.. would it be a 1HZ-T.. or the new V8..
