It's a H55F, same as used in HJ75s, FJ75s, 60 series unless they have a 4 speed or auto and hzj75s. Also some of the later 40 series i think. The bell housings and input shafts are different between motors however, although some seem to be interchangeable(I can't remember off the top of my head which ones)

If it is a 5 speed manual it is a H55F, unfortunately being a 3B it is unique to that engine. The H55F is used in many other land cruisers as above but the input shaft for a B series engine is different, it can be swapped into the other gearboxes though. Pretty much the only box suitable for replacement is a 70 series B series box 3B/13BT a 40 series box is slightly different but can be made to work if you swap some parts over.

You could have yours rebuilt or source a used one. How bad is your current one, whats it doing ? I do have a sweet spare 5 spd and transfer case, needs the 5th gear locking dog replaced, that I may get rid of

Hulsty I'm all ears about that gear box you want to get rid of, I've taken mine out and the plate for the input shaft is snapped and apparently I can't buy one. Where abouts are you from?

Ferntree Gully melb, I might have a spare one of those plates at my parents place. Slim chance though the box has already been pillaged to build two other ones. I'm pretty sure the plates are box specific too as the early H55F had smaller input shaft bearings, not sure when the change over was, my BJ42 box has the small bearing.

The gear box bearing kits change: -09/85 or 10/85- so the ~1986 model year uses a different bearing.

Thanks heaps mate. Well worst comes to worst I'll be buying a new box for 3 grand but I'm trying to see if I have any cheaper option. I have a rebuilt 2H and turbo sitting in my 60 but the autos blown so i was thinking of putting that in the 73 and buying a gearbox for that instead.. Any thoughts on that idea??

yeah that sucks about the box, can be asn expensive option i think i would be looking into putting a v8 or commodore motor and using a 5 speed out of another cruiser cause when u get around the 3 grand mark its not that far off getting a whole new truck with a decent amount of ks... something to think hard about hey u got yourself into a bit of a s*** posi
