When I purchased my 88' JDM BJ70 last summer it had a pintle mounted on the rear bumper. I was able to purchase a 2" receiver hitch from 4Wheel (last one I was told) which replaced the pintle quite nicely. As for the wiring there was a 7-pin round connector attached which I spent some time over xmas re-wiring to accomodate my 4-way flat connector on my trailer.
Only problem is that I have not found any stop light wires going to the 7-pin round connector. Also, since the truck has 2 independant lights for brake & turn while the trailer uses a dual filament bulb there needs to be some logic involved to disable the stop lights while turning. I do electronic design so that wouldn't be a problem but don't want to waste time if there is a solution already available.
What have others done to resolve this issue?, is there a BJ70 trailer wiring module that can be purchased? Does the stock wiring harness support this? I've thought of purchasing magnetic lights for the trailer and wiring them on in addition to the 4-way connector that I've currently wired. The problem then would be connecting into the existing vehicle stop turn wiring which is not as clean as running the trailer lights straight from the battery fused.
thanks for any advice!
