Recently picked up a 94 BJ70. (HZJ7OLV-MN).
Turns out the “”4WD”‘ button doesn’t engage 4WD. Looking at the situation, and with the few schematics that I can find online, I’m sure that this is a hack job on both the switch/electrical and vacuum connections to the Tcase.
What would be extremely helpful for me is a photo of what the proper setup for the engine-bay mounted vacuum switch(es) should be.
Below is a photo of the disconnected mess that I have. I saw an 80-series today with the button, and it had two vacuum solenoids for controlling 2/4 WD (which makes more sense to me…).
I’m in Costa Rica, so despite the Land Cruiser population down here, apparently this control mechanism is not common.
